After breaking off from the group it was off to new lands and roads not explored the original goal was the four corners then up to Cortez but after talking to some of the locals and making good time a detour for a Navajo Taco and tour of monument valley was in order. I was greeted with a nice ride from Brian head to Page with great views. The road over to Kayenta was marked as scenic but nothing too spectacular. But the road North from Kayenta back into Utah is a must see. Tomorrow its up into the Colorado Rockies and the Million Dollar Highway. So it was our rest day at the cabin before everyone starting to head home. Time was taken to do laundry, check and clean the bikes and to just have a day off with no schedule. Plans were made for the home trip with some of the girls returning to Vegas and taking in a show before flying out Saturday. Others planning stops and checking weather. I am heading to Colorado to check out the mountains as the weather seems to be good and should be able to ride the passes.
No disappoints today the weather was great the scenery was unreal and we found homemade pie and ice cream. We have been blessed the whole trip good weather, good friends and good food. Bryce was as I had remembered and everyone is having a hard time to pick what impressed them most on the trip. Some carried on past Bryce over the Hogback to Boulder and no one regretted taking the extra time it took.
So lots of talk around the cabin how can anything top yesterdays ride and scenery. WRONG!! As we rode in from the East into Zion once again your surrounded by jaw dropping views. It is almost surreal and hard to describe you can look at all the pictures you want but until your standing in the middle of this natural wonder you cant say you have seen it. Two days of enjoying Mother Natures Glory has made this such a wonderful trip. So again will tomorrow be worth seeing I cant wait to show them.
It never fails to amaze the first site of the Grand Canyon. For a lot of the riders this was their virgin trip to the canyon and being able to share it with them was very gratifying. We all got up early so we could spend more time at the canyon but it never seems enough with the breathtaking views at every viewpoint. Alas we had to move on as we were off to Brian Head again we were blessed with good weather and scenery along the way. The temp went from 30 to 10 as we made our way up the mountain and we had to navigate the last bit in the dark. We found our cabin and after few nervous moments getting the bikes up to the cabin we were at our new home for the next four days.
We did get our kicks on 66 starting at Mr D's Diner in Kingman with fresh made Root Beer and Burgers. Then we took the road from Kingman to Williams on the old route meeting lots of other riders. We stayed in William's which was loaded with restaurants and gift shops celebrating Route 66. Tomorrow its off to the Grand Canyon and up to the cabin in Utah.
After a good night in Vegas waking up to streets blocked due to a body being found on a street beside our Hotel we headed out to Hoover Dam the day again was in the 34-36 Degree range so some of the favorite activities were staying were there was air conditioning but we made our way out on to the dam and the new bridge to take some pictures then it was off to Kingman for lunch.
What a ride at least when it came to Temperature left at 9 degrees and drove into 37 Degrees when we hit Arizona and Nevada. We made a great shot through Salt Lake, you got to love HOV lanes. Glad we stayed North as traffic the night before was bad we talked to another traveler and it took hours to get through.
We stayed downtown on Freemont Street so we could just walk and enjoy the area. After gathering everybody we went for supper we noticed two things that have changed about Vegas one is there is no cheap food and secondly the diversity of the people downtown has changed to say it in the nicest way possible. But with a open mind and will to enjoy it was still a lot of fun. Tomorrow it off to the Hoover Dam and beyond with a nice short day and good friends. OH and why no pictures well we all know what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!!
We left Medicine Hat bundled and ready to go. We made good time and were at the border before lunch the temp had increased from 5 to around 14 and rising. No issues at the border so we made good time to Great Falls where we stopped for lunch and gas refill. The weather being so nice we took the recreation road along the Missouri River enjoying a beautiful day. On coming out of the mountains storms were all around us so we stopped and geared up for our final push to Butte but by luck we missed it all and came into Butte dry and happy to have arrived looking into the mountains we seen snow and the forecast is for a chilly morning all we can do is wait and see.
